Gabrielle Coco Chanel

I just finished watching the move "Coco Chanel". It's a biopic about the legendary woman who changed everything in fashion. I'm still half sobbing since the movie depicted a lot of her real life struggles and really touched me. The love of her life died on the way to meet her and all that was left of him was the white scarf that she had made for him. Picture: long white scarf blowing in the trees beyond the crash. It was odd timing that this movie was on t.v, considering the fact that there are two movies coming out depicting Coco this year. One is "Coco Avant Chanel" starring Audrey Tautou and the other is "Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky", starring Anna Mouglalis as Chanel. I was planning on blogging about these movies anyway but after watching this movie I felt even more compelled. In "Coco Chanel", Shirley Mclain played Coco when she was older but the woman who portrayed Chanel when she was young was astounding. Unknown actress Barbora Bobulova captured Chanel's beauty and proud personality. I am interested to see how well these two new women portray the iconic Coco Chanel. Both movies are completely different and are in two completely different times in her life but both have gotten good reviews and I am extremely looking forward to seeing them both.

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." - Coco Chanel

"A fashion that does not reach the streets is not a fashion." - Coco Chanel

R.I.P. Aaliyah

It's been 8 years today, since the tragedy. Aaliyah Dana Haughton died in a plane crash. Taken from us way too early and was just reaching her peak; Matrix was on the way and The Queen of the Damned was just coming out. As I wrote in a previous post "Aaliyah Biopic", there is just something special about Aaliyah that no other R n B singer/actress had. Instead of being sad I just want to remember her beauty and her talent.

The Bible

I've been trying to post this blog for a couple days now. I couldn't find a way to fit the video in my blog. Kinda lame but I just wanted to talk about this exciting documentary that's coming out September 11th in select cities. "The September Issue", is based on Anna Wintour, the big chief at Vogue. It's directed by R.J Cutler and focuses on preparing the big September issue of Vogue 2008.

Save Anna

Christopher Sauve is a New York based, freelance fashion designer. Originally from right here in Vancity! He's really good at taking what's going on in pop culture and turning it into a t-shirt.(my kinda guy) Support his latest creation and help "Save Anna" (wintour). Rumor is either reitrement or replacement, so post the graphic to your facebook or buy the t-shirt here!

This "I Die, Bananas " t-shirt is sadly no longer in production due to Rachel Zoe who claims that the popular phrase that inspired Chris shouldn't be used by anyone other than herself. LAME!

Some more designs by Chris, Karl is my favorite!
